The process of filmmaking is both an art and an industry.
Filmmaking, both short and feature length, involves a number of stages including an initial story or concept, through scriptwriting, casting, shooting, sound recording and ADR, editing, to screening and marketing the finished product to the intended audience.
Development — The initial stage in which the ideas for the film are created, rights are secured, and the treatment is written. Financing for the project has to be sought.
Pre-production — Preparations are made for the shoot, cast and film crew are hired, locations are sourced, and production is designed.
Production — The raw elements for the film are recorded during a film shoot.
Post-production — Where the images, sound, and visual effects of the film are edited together.
Distribution and Marketing —The finished film is screened to an invited audience and marketed to festivals and distributors.
