The process of filmmaking is both an art and an industry.

Filmmaking, both short and feature length, involves a number of stages including an initial story or concept, through scriptwriting, casting, shooting, sound recording and ADR, editing, to screening and marketing the finished product to the intended audience.

  • Development — The initial stage in which the ideas for the film are created, rights are secured, and the treatment is written. Financing for the project has to be sought.

  • Pre-production — Preparations are made for the shoot, cast and film crew are hired, locations are sourced, and production is designed.

  • Production — The raw elements for the film are recorded during a film shoot.

  • Post-production — Where the images, sound, and visual effects of the film are edited together.

  • Distribution and Marketing —The finished film is screened to an invited audience and marketed to festivals and distributors.
